Now….Lets go to the video tape!!!

Well kids, in the past I’ve made reference to the gibberish gushed from Paula Abdul.  Last night was a sterling example.

Then there’s the story of a 7 year old boy in Flordia that snatched the key to his grandmothers Dodge Durango for a spin.  Now I understand kids will do stuff, and I don’t think beating kids is a good idea…..but in this case I’ll make an exception.  He seems more bothered than sorry.

Random Thoughts from a Cluttered Mind

Why is it called “Dancing with the Stars” when I’ve heard of so few of the “Stars”?

Last week was the 1st anniversary of the Virgina Tech massacare. I remember doing the news the days after and trying to understand why the nutsack felt the need to kill so many.  Now I see where the university has paid each family a large sum of money to avoid being sued.  I feel for the familes that lost thier kids, but why in the world would assume the school was responsible for that guy going nuts?

Hilary Clinton is running commericals for the N.C. Primary.  She laments the rising cost of gas and explains how she will lower the cost.  She will spend $130 BILLON in research for alternative fuels.  Thats right, she is willing to take $130 BILLION dollars today so you MIGHT get a slightly lower gas bill in 20 years.  and you folk in the Democratic party wonder why she is losing to a guy with 3 yrs experience in the U.S. Senate and no track record.

John McCain ame out with a unique suggestion to lowering the cost of gas TODAY, not 20 years from now.  He wants to suspend the Federal Gas Tas for the summer.  That equates to over 12 cents per gallon…..today.  It would positiviely impact the economy with travel, meals, etc but it does have one

The Masters has come and gone.  Tiger didn’t win so know one cares.

Tennis is in full swing.  Even fewer care.

NASCAR is rolling and I freaking love it!  But there is one sport that has gotten my attention.

Aussie Rules Football has become my new favorite.  Click the link and watch the video to see why.

Look Twice - save a Life

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Well we survived another busy weekend with the highlight being an event in Anderson.

The Motorcycle Awareness Alliance held a poker run with the focus on safety.  The title “Look Twice, Save a Life” is more than a great slogan, it should be a way of life.   When you are on the road, take an extra second and save a life.

We spent a few hours hanging out with some of the nicest folks  you could ever hope to meet…along with one major pain in the ass.  Anytme you get a crowd togther there’s a good chance there will be one person who’s opinion of himself is higher than everyone elses.  Saturday was no different.  A guy in his early 30’s, who has been riding a Harley for less than 2 years, who spent more time picking out his over priced Harley jacket than learning how to spin a wrench on his own bike, and perfecting the art of drinking too much beer became our offical “PIA” (pain in the ass).

He was determined to get a free Rock 101 t-shirt and came up with a creative way to make it happen…….by berating our promotions guy and me.  Yep, mister smooth figured out that if you stand there and call people names we will naturally cave it and give him a free shirt.  When you mix hops, grain, barley and stupid, you get an insulting drunk with a bad plan.  Hope he made it home ok.

Apart from the PIA the remote was great and reminded me its only 4 weeks til the Spring Rally at Myrtle.  God help us all.

There Is Nothing We Can’t Do. One true precept.

Monday, April 7th, 2008

If have read my blog for very long, and I realize very very few have, then you are aware I can get a bit “testy” at times.  People for the most part are full of crap, including me.  We have a tendancy to feel sorry for ourselves, to give up when something gets hard, or not even try when something seems difficult.  Again, I fall into the very same traps.

Back in my professional life prior to Rock 101, I managed people, networks, problems, budgets, etc.  But most of all I managed people.  During that time I came to have a deep appreciation for one true precept.  “There is nothing we can’t do.”

From NASA to TV, to GPS, to brain surgery, people, can do anything.  An even stronger belief I have is Americans can do anything.  I don’t buy into being a victim, stuff being too hard, to whining.  Again, I belief we can do anything.  Years ago I used to bore my teams by making them watch a video from the Tom Hanks HBO series “From the Earth to the Moon.”  One episode focused on a small company that won the bid to build the first lunar lander.  The good news was they won the bid.  The bad news was they then had to build it.  In fact in many cases they had to invent the tools they used to eventually build the lander.  A small firm. A small team. A huge challenge.  I wanted my guys to watch the show because it demonstated that one precept.  There is nothing we can’t do.

The link below is yet more proof that we has humans, and we as Americans can do anything.

As you watch the video keep in mind what your potential is and what a gift is can be.  Dean Kamen is an amazing indvidual, doing amazing things.  Enjoy the video and as I say from time to time, “You can thank me later.”
